I've just finished my latest novel, Gladius, another addition to the Hussies series (well, if it's accepted that is...I'll share the news as soon as I have them). The UEFA Euro Cup (soccer) is on...which means my TV screen full of yummy men in shorts.

It's a good life, I tell you.

Which reminds me of the first romance I've read. Remember that one? Aside from the Harlequins that I was unfortunate enough to try back in the 80s (and made me run and never look back), I clearly remember my first ever romance. Actually, it was an erotic romance entitled Ravenous, by Sherri L. King. After I finished, I thought, DAMN, guns AND hot love AND a strong heroine?! Gimme more. I went on to try another, because O Joy, my hopes were up and my woman parts were tingly. I read Madame Charlie by Sahara Kelly. That was in 2006, I think. Supreme Delight, I LOVED it too. Two good books in two tries? I was hooked. So from one of those who'd look at romance books with a bit of distrust and a whole lot of "mehh", I became a fan of what I call "hybrids". I'm not sure if it's a proper term. Don't care. Hey, I even call science fiction "scifi" which I know gets some people's panties all bunched into a knot. You what? I don't care about that either. But back to those books with enough action to satisfy the gamer in me that also happen to pack some hot love and sex that please me as a woman? Well damn, can I ask for more?

I've read more of these hybrids since then, and even caught myself once or twice reading scifi or fantasy stories and *adding* the romance and sex in my head because suddenly, I thought it was lacking, which had never happened before. But I realize I'm a late bloomer.

So Hussies out there, do you remember the first romance or erotic romance book you read? What was it (and don't forget linkage goodness so we can drool at the cover)?

P.S. that photo was taken when we spent a weekend in Paris last year. The column base. She reached higher, but couldn’t stretch enough to touch him. She’d misjudged the distance and needed to shift onto one hip to roll her body past the opening and onto the ledge with him. Slowly, she lifted her gaze to the gargoyle.

She kneeled beside him on the concrete ledge, surveying the inset and ledge’s short expanse. She had done it! Her pantyhose snagged and ripped from the rough concrete. With her hair lashing in a chaotic, twirling mass against her face, she managed to capture the unruly strands and tuck them behind her ear. There he was! Leonardo. It was incredible! Her laughter was carried away on the wind. Her hands trembled. She must touch him.

Intoxicated by the victory, she slowly became aware of where she was—dangerously close to the edge of the narrow alcove. Timidly, she glanced at the busy street scene below. The city was loud and bright, and several hundred feet below—all backdropped by a full moon. The world spun around her. Panic momentarily replaced elation, but she looked away from the dizzying street scene and focused on Leonardo.

“Oh my! You’re so magnificent,” she gasped, looking at his sinewy form. His sleek, hard body was so expertly carved. Raw masculine power was captured in the frozen pounce stopped just before he lunged forward into the air. She trembled as if he’d brushed his hand against her pussy.

Her breath latched in her throat, as she expected him to melt free of the stone and turn to her. Desire scorched a path over her, hardening her nipples in its jagged path to her clit. His face, only inches from hers, was the face of a man, yet his forehead was similar to a lion with a long unruly mane permanently caught in the wind. How could a statue be so lifelike?

She reached out, but stopped short of touching his shoulder. To touch him meant the fantasy would end. When he didn’t come to life, everything she’d hoped for would no longer be possible. It would all be over with one simple touch. Yet the temptation to touch him drew her closer. She drew a deep breath and steeled against the finality of the long-awaited touch.

“I’ve wanted you for so long, Leonardo.” She ran her tongue over her lips. The wind swirled around her with the faint sound of night traffic ebbing from below. She hungered for him. The need to feel him beneath her touch was stronger than any fear of losing him forever. Kneeling there, so close to the edge, she had only one thought. Leonardo.

She lifted onto her knees so she was eye level with his handsome face.

“Hello, sexy,” she whispered, staring into his piercing look. For a brief instant, she wondered if he were in truth a wild animal instead of her sexy lover. Once set free would he turn on her like a creature from the jungle, startled by human touch? Just inches from his face, she couldn’t pull away. She was actually going to touch him. After all the nights of yearning for this moment, it had arrived. Her arousal released in a rush of hot moistness that drenched her panties.

Could she join him on the column without falling to her death? She didn’t dare look down again. All she needed was to brush her pussy against his hardness. It was insane yet she didn’t care. Some people had foot fetishes, well, hers was a statue. His name curled over her tongue and past her lips.

Read another excerpt: http://tinyurl.com/6gc3fx

Amazon

PocketSally Painterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05591161506655566078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4827124756727342015.post-15541624858725166692008-04-04T16:38:00.012-04:002008-04-05T13:28:08.188-04:00Divided Love - Favorite Book Of the Month!

A queen, a curse, and a captain of the royal guard whose hands are suddenly full of two sexy, spirited women.

When Reci, Queen of Cups, abdicates her underwater throne, she has no idea of the curse awaiting her. A being who can read your darkest desires and make them come true? Well, in S.L. Carpenter’s novel Dark Lord - Origins, the hero does exactly that! And wowee girls, he can make you scream in a whole bunch of ways you probably never imagined!!! He sure hits the right spot with the women whose lives he touches in this fascinating Exotika novel from Ellora’s Cave. And to think it’s written by a man!!! Yep, S.L. Carpenter is one of the few men writing erotic romances for Ellora’s Cave and believe me, he can spin a sizzling tale that’ll knock your socks off, along with other bits of clothing!

If you’ve missed this treat, here’s a brief blurb - do yourself a favor and heat up your night with this story. You won’t be disappointed.

Dark Lord - Origins

Just the whisper of his name brings shivers of desire to the women who have met him. The Dark Lord. A mysterious being who fulfills their deepest passions, their most sensual and erotic dreams.
Journalist Alyson Mendez has heard about him and stolen something—his medallion. She wants a story, a front-page scoop on this man of many magical talents. What she gets is much more than an interview.
Defying her preconceived notions of space and time, the Dark Lord shows her times and places — and lovers. It's a journey both exquisite and painful, a voyage into a world of desires Alyson could never have imagined. And a glimpse into the past, present and future of the Dark Lord — his Origins.

See? I told you it was hot hot hot!!! Now I’m one very lucky Hussy, because I get to write erotic romances with this talented man …so when it came time to see if he’d come over and talk to us, I elbowed all the other Hussies out of the way, grabbed him and threw some questions at him. Like the great sport and nice guy he is, Scott Carpenter answered them with his usual charm and humor!

Scott, if you woke up one morning and found you were a woman all of a sudden, do you think you’d make a good Hussy?

After doing a thorough examination of all parts of my new anatomy, finding if there really is a place on a woman’s body that would make her orgasm instantly, I’d be a great HUSSY.
I’d have all kinds of attitude, be frisky, a tease, and a hell of a ride in bed. Is that the right kind of hussy?

Yep. You just qualified top of the class - that must’ve been too easy. LOL So here’s a challenge for you - if you had to describe a woman to a blind man who’d never seen one, how would you go about it?

I’d find out if he could read Braille, then talk to my buddy Marcus to see if he could bring one of his photo models over for the blind man to read by touch. If I couldn’t do that, then I’d have to describe how I see women.
Women are God’s creation of temptation. From the curvature of their body, to the scent of their hair, the softness of their skin - everything that is seen as beauty comes from the female form. No two are exactly the same and all have features that attract men differently. Their hair is different lengths and has a different feel to it. Their breasts are supple or buxom, but they all feel soft to the touch. A woman’s lips are moist and kissing them can make your knees buckle, their hips are for holding as you ... Um, I am getting distracted.
I see women as works of art. Women breathe sensuality. They show their emotions, they show their moods. But what’s inside is the essence of the female.
I haven’t even started talking about a woman’s taste. If I get started I won’t stop. You know how I am about this.

I do indeed. In fact I think we covered this in more than a few chapters of the five books we’ve co-authored so far. And you know how I love to hear it!!!(grin) But besides writing with me, there are quite a few solo Carpenter volumes out there. For example, you’ve written three books in the “Lust” series (Dark Lust, Strange Lust 1 and 2), collections of short sizzling stories that so many readers love. I understand there’s another in the pipeline coming to delight us…can you tell us about it?

NAKED LUST. I have been writing these short stories since the beginning. I figure sometimes a reader wants a quick little laugh or tease between running around the house, kids, late night reading or work. Something to make them smile and squirm. That’s what the LUST series is. Something to take your mind away and give it a little ride.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_M2M9BiVoFGI/Rwthq7HMcfI/AAAAAAAAAAs/fZ-Se6KynFQ/s400/nakedlust.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5119292791486968306" />

The newest one is a little different than the older ones because the stories are a bit longer. The centerpiece is about a woman with multiple partners. But as usual I have some outrageous sex in some stories, some to make you scratch your head and say, “huh?” and even one that makes you think “I know he didn’t just say that.”
The LUST books are basically me. A little off center but wanting to be fun and playful.

Lemme tell ya, folks, Scott’s mind works in strange and twisted ways that translate into incredibly hot and hilarious novels!!! He really is fun and playful!! No kidding - that’s him to a T! In addition to his upcoming releases, he has stories in four Pocket book print anthologies that you’ll find listed on his website, www.slcarpenter.net - I recommend you drop by and check ‘em out, along with all the other wonderful stuff he has there to tickle your inner Hussy! Of course, you can find a complete list of his books at Ellora’s Cave too.

On your behalf, I’m giving him a big Hussy hug along with our thanks for sharing some of his precious free time with us! Keep those wonderful stories coming, Scott. You have a lot of readers out there just aching to read more. I’m sorry we couldn’t arrange to get the Hussies naked with you, but maybe soon…Sahara Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03989470381968542543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4827124756727342015.post-75974335261501976162007-10-07T08:40:00.000-04:002007-10-07T08:55:01.505-04:00Playing games has never been sexierThan what you'll find in Roll Play by Rowan West. In her debut novel from Ellora's Cave, Rowan has crafted a tale where fantasies come to life and passion sparks hot enough to melt your computer screen.

Here's a little tempter about the book to get your motors running:

Amara has loved Griffin since she was a teenager but hasn't seen him since. He has figured prominently in her fantasies and as the hero of her books. Now she is flying to California to help turn her book into a screenplay. As dazzling as the prospect is, it pales in comparison to discovering that Griffin heads the studio.

Griffin met Amara while participating in role-playing games with her brother. Although he had feelings for her, he couldn't make a move on his best friend's little sister. Until now. Now he has the means to bring her to him — and the magic to create a place for them to experience all the passion they feel for each other.

Each night, a roll of the enchanted die brings Amara and Griffin into a dream realm where their every desire becomes reality. By day she gets to know the man, by night the lover. But is it only a game for Griffin? Because Amara knows her heart — and she is playing for keeps.

Honey, there's heat in spades in this book and Rowan is definitely a new author to keep your eye on. This Hussies is definitely looking forward to the next exciting offering from a very hot new voice in erotic romance.

Being the dear she is, Rowan consented to letting me ask a few questions:

Q: Rowan, could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

A: ROLL PLAY is the first book I have ever had published and I am thrilled to be part of the Ellora's Cave family. EC was my first choice from the moment I started reading erotic romance e-book.

The book is a contemporary with a strong paranormal element in the form of an enchanted 10-sided die (like the kind used to play dungeons and dragons). Amara and Griffin met each other as teens playing role-playing games, but nothing came of their feelings then. Now Griffin has found a way to bring Amara back into his life. By day she is working on a screen play for his company. By night, she rolls the die and awakens in a magical realm where Griffin makes all of her erotic fantasies come true. Getting to know the man and the lover makes Amara certain she wants Griffin to be a permanent part of her life, but first she has to be certain that their time together isnt just a game forhim

Q: And honey, you did a fantastic job of creating characters who set the pages on fire. Can you tell us a little about your current WIP's?

A: I am currently working on a short erotic contemporary romance about a woman who's greatest fear in her relationships is being too deeply known, too deeply seen. She likes to keep people at a distance. Of course, the man she loves and who has come back into her life is a painter, someone who sees all of her.

I am also working on a contemporary that I hope to submit to EC's Exotica line called RIGHTS OF THE MASTER about a woman who must once again spend time with the man who was not just her sexual equal, but the man whose dominance matched her submissive soul.

Q: Oh Yumm. I can't wait! How do you come up with your ideas?

A: Just about anything can end up becoming a story idea from an article in a magazine (I keep a file of favorites) to hearing about an interesting job to a passion of mine. I am determined to write a book where chocolate figures prominantly. That will make for some great giveaways for readers, dont you think? One of my current ideas is for two stories about twins born on different days (one born just before midnight, one just after) and their names are Eve and Dawn. What enables me to follow through with an idea is the characters. If I have discovered compelling characters, I stay with the story to see how it turns out for them

Q: How do you balance family and writing?

A: This is an important part of my life. I know it is a challenge for a lot of writers - heck, for women in general - and it is something I have worked hard at. For almost six years I have been an at-home-mom (I was never good at the 9-5 world), and I have two sons who will be 8 and 5 in December. My younger son just started half-day preschool so for the first time in nearly five years I have time without kids during the week. It's only two hours, but right now that seems like a lot. I try to get as much done as I can in this time.

Most of my day, however, still involves them. By the time they are in bed, I am too tired to write so I have learned to blend writing and parenting. If I write in the dining room, they take out their "work" and create along side me. More recently I have found that I can ask for short blocks of time (an hour to an hour and a half) to work in my office (it's the garage, but it's all mine!) where they watch a movie and I write.

Since the publication of ROLL PLAY they understand better that Mommy's writing is a real thing and that she needs time for that just like Daddy needs his time at his office. One thing that works is when I ask for time to write, I write. And when I go back to my family, I am fully with them. Oh the occasional bribe works, too. I was on a deadline for a book for The Lotus Circle and I told them that if they gave me the time I requested then when the deadline was up they would each get a new Webkinz. It work. I made the deadline and there are happy kids with new stuffed animals in our house.

LOL, sounds like you've managed to successfully balance things out so that everyone is happy. If you've not yet read this book, then all I can say is "Boy have you missed out!!!" This is one smokin' hot read, babies. Consider this:

When Dylan Reese first sees Tomas, the sensual masked Dom at Club Chained, he instantly feels the connection between them. Falling under his dark spell, Dylan is unable to resist his commands, baring his body and his soul for his masked lover. In an intense exchange of sensual power, Dylan submits with an honesty and a passion he’s never known. He finds himself falling hopelessly in love with a stranger who can’t or won’t reveal himself.

Dr. Jack Marchand, a professor of medieval history, is smitten the moment he lays eyes on Dylan, the green-eyed PhD candidate he is mentoring. As their friendship blossoms, so does their trust—freeing Dylan to confess his submissive orientation while Jack admits his naturally dominant impulses. A tumble into bed after too much to drink convinces Jack he must possess Dylan on every level.

But just as Dylan is captured by a fantasy, Jack is held prisoner by a secret of his own creation. Jack finally realizes the only way to liberate Dylan’s heart is to confess what he has kept hidden from the world.

Wowza!! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! The chemistry between Dylan and Jack is electricifying and will have you opting for iced coffee over a steaming cup because there's enough heat between these two to melt your ice cubes.

I was curious about the mind behind this and other great books and Claire was nice enough to spend some time with me.

Claire, tell me about yourself. How did you get started writing?

I started writing erotica and erotic romance back in 1996 as a way to explore my own sexual fantasies in a safe, secret way. At the time I wasn’t yet comfortable with my submissive, masochistic sexual orientation. When I dared to share my writing with a few close friends, they encouraged me to try and get my work published. Writing led to actual exploration in real life and boy, what a long, strange FUN road it’s been! Lately I’ve been writing male/male erotic romance and having a great time entering the minds and hearts of strong, sexy men who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable.

Could you tell me about your backlist.

I have published over twenty five novels. The novels at Renaissance.com primarily focus on BDSM erotica, not necessarily romantic, though a number of them are in fact romantic in nature with happily ever after endings. Please click on this link to see all the novels there. http://clairethompson.net/books/renaissance/index.html

Novels available in paperback can be viewed and purchased here: http://clairethompson.net/books/printbooks/index.html

My novels and quickies with Ellorascave.com can be viewed and purchased here: http://clairethompson.net/books/ellorascave/index.html

What genre do you write? What drew you to write in that genre? If you mix genres talk about that too.

I write BDSM both consensual and nonconsensual. This was my first love, as I find the passion possible in a loving D/s relationship to be combustible. It began as my own secret exploration. As I grew in my own life, experiencing the lifestyle I’d only dreamed of, that experience colored and enriched my work. I began to branch out with some science fiction (Pleasure Planet:Eros), vampire tales (True Kin Series) as well as a historical novel (Seduction of Colette) and my witch tale (Cast a Lover’s Spell). My latest passion is male/male erotic romance. I’ve written six male/male romances, three with a BDSM theme and three vanilla but sizzling hot. (you can check them all out at: http://clairethompson.net/books/ellorascave/index.html ). My latest venture is a ménage a tois between two bisexual men and a woman who signs up to be their submissive sex slave (Two Masters for Alex, coming out in Jan, 2008 with Elloras Cave). I had a lot of fun exploring the sexual tension, jealousy and difficulties that naturally arise when two become three, not to mention the super hot sex!

Do you like hearing from readers?

There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, more thrilling than getting an email from a reader! A writer creates a story in a vacuum. The editor is a good first barometer, but it isn’t until someone actually writes and lets me know what they thought that I can breathe easier. I also love to read reviews. I still can hardly believe people actually buy and read my stuff, much less take the time to write a considered review of my work. It’s the ultimate compliment and most certainly not one I take for granted. I don’t have any contests on my site at the moment, but I often post excerpts during chats and do giveaways at that time.

What are your plans for the future?

My dream is to write fulltime. Right now, with three children at home to support and a husband who is partially disabled and only works part time, I can’t quit my day job! But someday I hope to devote myself exclusively to my passion.

Have you ever started a book and then have it completely turn around and change course? Tell us about it.

That has happened a couple of times! For example, Island of Temptation began as a novel about a spoiled young woman, a driven professional guy and a bisexual laid-back artist who are stranded together on a tropical island. Instead it evolved into a story about a gay super sexy laid-back artist and a straight guy. As they struggle just to survive they develop the kind of close relationship men in combat develop. Their friendship evolves into something much more intense.

Any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

Follow your heart and your passion. Don’t write for a particular genre or “craze”. Write what moves you—what matters to you. Before you submit anything, proofread the hell out of it! Print it out because it’s easier to catch errors on the page than on the screen. Once you complete the manuscript, let it sit a few weeks and “gel”. Come back to it with a fresh eye. Read the dialog aloud to see if it rings true. Stilted dialog throws a reader out of the story. Don’t get discouraged with rejections!! (Boy is THAT easy to say but not to do!). Remember, J K Rowling was refused by a number of publishers before her Harry Potter series found a home!

What is the hardest part of writing?

For me the hardest part is getting a good plot going with a hook that will capture the reader’s interest. The first few chapters are always the toughest for me. Then I get into a groove and just take off.

What was the release date of your first book? Why did you write it, who published it and can you tell us about receiving the “call”?

My very first book came out in 1996. It was entitled Sarah’s Surrender and it was released in print as a paperback with Masquerade Books (now defunct). I had wanted to call it Sarah’s Awakening, and when the rights reverted back to me, I changed the title accordingly. It was one of those flukes of good luck and timing that I managed to publish the first novel I ever wrote, and was offered a contract before I’d written more than three chapters! I wasn’t really serious about it back then, so maybe that’s why it worked out (beginner’s luck). Plus the market was much smaller and the necessity of an agent much less acute back then. Whatever the reason, I sent the first three chapters of a book about a young woman’s sexual awakening, specifically her fascination with D/s (Dominance/submission) to the publisher of Masquerade and a few weeks later I got a phone call from him. He said, “Okay, we got the first three chapters of your book. Where’s the rest?” It was the most thrilling phone call! He bought the book right there on the phone. I never made much money on it with them (having no agent to negotiate for me, I suppose) but it was my first advance and my first novel and from then on I had the bug!

Thanks, Claire, I appreciate you taking the time to answer some questions for us. Now, before we close, I want to mention another of Claire's books, Odd Man Out.

Attending a wedding with his ex-lover wasn’t the smartest thing Ben had ever agreed to do since Carl could really be a horse’s behind, but one look at David, the groom’s best man, and he was willing to change his mind. The man was sex personified and it was apparent he was used to conquering his lovers with his masculine appeal and confident, sexy manner.

David is an actor-model, happy to play the scene, definitely not looking for love. Ben is a New York stock research analyst, more than likely a man interested in a discussion of stock-market trends, the latest high-finance maneuvers or who was embezzling from whom. Well for Dorothy, happily-ever-after is more than just a fictional ending. In fact, she’s convinced she is living her own magical version of a fairytale. With faith and a little hard work, she’s enjoyed every day of the last fifteen years of marriage to her sexy sculptor husband who often exhibits the patience of a saint. They reside in an artsy beach community in South Carolina with two dogs and a cat. An environmental urban planner by profession and wildlife biologist by education, she gave up her day job to devote her time to writing. She writes Regency romances, romantic suspense, and short stories. Dorothy loves to hear from her readers. Not only is the writing grand, but the whole premise of the storyline is beautifully created. Iona is sassy and bright and I loved how she stands her ground for her independence. A hot-blooded Nathan and a desirable Iona, wow, this story sizzles with excitement, passion and the natural interference of families. Dorothy McFalls develops an intriguing read where characters linger long after the story ends. The well-sculptured secondary characters definitely put a spin on the story. This is one tantalizing read that is truly extraordinary in a most satisfying way." ** 4 Cups ** --Cherokee, Coffee Time Romance

"LADY IONA’S REBELLION by Dorothy McFalls is an outrageous romp through Regency England with two wonderfully compelling characters as they find themselves dodging scandal on the way to discovering love." ** 4 Ribbons ** --Anita, Romance Junkies

"The plot is fresh and adventuresome and each sister, brother, parent, friend and servant were a tribute to this wonderful story of confusion! The more Iona and Nathan experienced together, the more involved the events became! Each time Nathan did anything, it was perceived as scandalous; Lady Iona had the sympathy of the entire ton because, since she was known as the malleable child, it was never expected that she had anything to do with the outrage! This is a meticulous novel in which Ms. Dorothy McFalls showed her vast talent in the expansion of this book. I literally could not put it down. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who loves regency romance. This book will go well on your "keeper" list!" ** 5 Hearts ** --Brenda Talley, The Romance Studio

Sally: When did you start writing?
Dorothy: When haven't I been writing? Well, I suppose I didn't get much done while in college. I was much too busy with...um...other things than to work on my fiction. But some of my earliest (and best) memories involve making up stories in my head. As soon as I learned to write, I started put these stories down into little picture books for myself and my family. That's not to say those first stories were any good. Yet creating them gave me great pleasure. I remember one about monsters and another about talking cows and I'm sure there were several spy stories in the mix as well.

In 2001, I decided it was time to follow my dream of writing professionally. So, I developed a very detailed (and strict) budget and quit my job. Almost the next day, I discovered that if I was going to be a successful writer, I needed to actually learn the craft of writing. And that's the day when I really began writing.

Sally: Okay, so who encouraged you to write or influenced you the most?
Dorothoy: I'm lucky to have a family who encouraged me and a husband who believes in me. But there is one person--a teacher--who provided me with a great gift. She was my third grade teacher. Though I can't remember her name, I remember very well the day she picked the poem I'd written to be published in the school newsletter. And I also clearly remember the words she wrote on the top of my copy of that newsletter: "Keep writing. You're going to do something great with your words one day." It's amazing how such a small piece of kindness can stick with you for a lifetime. Her words of encouragement helped fuel my desire to become the writer I am today.

Sally: What inspired you to write Lady Iona's Rebellion?
Dorothy: I know several writers who claim their characters are like friends to them. I suppose that is true for me, too, which should probably make me worry about how I treat my real-life-flesh-and-blood friends. I mean, my characters never get a moment's peace. I put them through hell and if they manage to survive that, I drop a bomb on their heads. It's a miracle that when I meet a real-life friend on the street, she doesn't let out a scream and take off running in the opposite direction.

But even though I wish horrible things for my characters, I do love them. Especially Lady Iona. She showed up as a minor character in my debut Regency: The Marriage List (which is contracted to be reissued by Cerridwen Press). There was something special about her. She had a knack for finding trouble, and I knew as I was writing The Marriage List that Iona simply had to have her own book! She was so good at getting herself into trouble--and had so much fun doing it--that Lady Iona's Rebellion practically wrote itself.

Heck, I liked her so much, when my husband and I got a new Papillon puppy this past February I named the rambunctious scamp Lady Iona!

Sally: What do you enjoy the most about writing?

Dorothy: What don't I enjoy? Well, rejection letters. But that has nothing to do with the writing-side of writing, now does it? Writing romance is a dream job for me. It's similar to playing house with dolls. I get to make up elaborate stories for my characters and put them in wondrous places. And I'm in control...most of the time. What can be better than that?
Sally: What is your naughty secret?Dorothy: Oh my goodness. I'm terribly boring, I'm afraid. All this spending too much time in your own head can do that to a person. I bet the naughtiest secret I could tell you is that I love to read erotica. The hotter the better!

Sally: Why Regency period? What captures your imagination about this period in history?

Dorothy: That's a great question. What is a wildlife biologist by training and an environmental urban planner by profession doing writing about the Regency period? You're supposed to write what you know. And let me tell you, when I set out on this path, I knew nothing about the Regency period. All I knew was that reading Regency romances sparked my imagination. They are very much like the fairytales we grew up with as children. And I ask you, who can resist a rakish lord dressed in tight pants?

But that wasn't the only thing that made me chose During the Regency period. There was the glitter and the romance of that short period in English history. It was a time when the public followed the lives of the aristocracy just like we follow celebrities today. Crowds would gather to watch the lords and ladies dressed in their finest suits and gowns emerge from their carriages to attend balls. Gossip columns in the daily newspapers spilled the dirt on the latest scandals. But beneath the glitter and the excess--just like today--some very real, very compelling dramas were playing out. Although historical romances whisk us away to another place and another world, I believe the struggle to be loved and make our relationships work despite the odds against us is something we all understand.

So, instead of writing what I knew, I set out to writing what I loved to read. Not that it was an easy path to take. When working on a historical, I spend hours a day at the library researching the period and location . Some of my best resources are fictional works that were published during the Regency. Luckily, I enjoy the research almost as much as the writing.

Thank you, Dorothy, for being with us. When Kira isn't living in a fantasy world, she's writing about one from her ordinary house in Ohio with a few feline companions (who don't sing nearly as well as the angels do). Is it any wonder she prefers the cave?

I was able to drag Kira away from her virutal fantasyland long enough to answer a few questions.

Sally: Welcome to the Hussies Book Slam, Kira. (Kira ducks.) Whoa, easy there. (Looking around the library.) Relax. You've been in that virtual reality too long. This is a real room. I yanked you out of the virutal world. That's right, have a seat by the window. Comfy? Good. Now tell me, Kira, what led you to writing and this particular genre?
Kira: The first book I ever wrote is still on my WIP shelf, but there was something so... compelling... about the idea that I just had to put it on paper. Like a song you can't get out of your head. I suppose I was more stubborn than many, because it took me months to get the hint. But once I started, I couldn't stop. With luck, I never will. *g* As to the genre, I don't really have a choice. I've drawn lines in the creative sand, and my muses generally laugh and shove me over them. So, I just roll with what inspires me, regardless of genre.

Sally: Speaking of rolling around, this book has a lot of orgasmic pleasures happening. Quite a bit of action. Ahem... aside from the obvious, what did you enjoy the most about writing this book?
Kira: The menage scenes in the castle, particularly the shower scene. The characters were a lot of fun to write.

Sally: Okay, see, that was what I thought. (VBG). So now I have to ask, did any real person(s) inspire any of your characters?
Kira: No, generally I get inspired by snippets of conversation, but not people as a whole.

Sally: Ahha... I now see how this idea began to unfolded. Kira is sitting by the water fountain in the mall, eavesdropping on two men and a woman discussing last night, all the while never suspecting Kira isn't really playing a video game on her Blackberry. You're shaking your head. No? Very well, let me ask something elese. What's in store for your readers?
Kira: Many new places, and people, to meet. *g* This book was originally much different. Turns out there were two plots hiding in one story and I had to split them. So, the other half has now been accepted by EC. Readers will see another side of the complex that houses the Zodiac machine. *g* And, if my muses will cooperate, Liam should have a story of his own someday soon.

Sally: Now that sounds like a lot of fun! And speaking of fun, what is your naughty secret?
Kira: I find earlobes to be VERY sexy. *blushes*

Sally: I see.. hmm...Sounds like fodder for another book.

It's been fun having you with us, Kira. A talent for romance, and all things erotic, Lauren's books have been inspiring us (and heating us up) for several years. Today, I'd like to feature one of her recent releases from Ellora's Cave, Threat of Darkness.

This book is a spinoff of Lauren's Witches Knot Series, but if you haven't read this series and want to start with this book, it can be read alone.

Mei is a Warrior for the Balance. She stands between good and evil. So when her boss tells her she's got to head to Tir na nOg to help the Fae she is most displeased. Mei's mother Aine, the queen of the Fae, betrayed and exiled her millennia ago. Or so she's been led to believe.

But Aine was misled by her own sister, and suddenly everything Mei has thought was true for thousands of years falls down around her ears as she looks up to see the face of her husband. Her first husband, a man she'd thought was dead.Jayce MacTavish is surprised to find that his wife, thought millennia dead, is alive, but his joy is tempered by the realization that she's got another mate.

Mei, Card and Jayce must find a way to be together as three while a threat from the Dark Fae and a new enemy darkens the horizon.

This is fantasy at its best and Lauren really pulled off the ménage with sizzle, but more importantly with emotional depth. It's a tale of love and loss, of the battle between darkness and light and a tale where hope doesn't die, but is kept alive by love.

Lauren has received rave reviews on this book.

Pam at My Book Cravings gives THREAT OF DARKNESS five flowers and says in part: The sexual encounters between the three mates are everything you could wish for in a ménage grouping…sizzling hot, steamy and above all loving. It’s all that you could ask for in a fantasy romance. I eagerly look forward to the next book by Miss Dane. Read and enjoy!

Aris at Alternative Read says of Threat of Darkness: Let the magic fly. A powerful story of love and the loss of that love, then finding even stronger love, in being bound to two. Hot, steamy, sexy, and tender, all you could want in a romance.

Lisa at The Romance Studio gives THREAT OF DARKNESS four and a half hearts and says in part: (…) it is very apparent this author spent a lot of time organizing her notes and crafting a riveting tale of dark forces battling the good. Mei’s relationship with her mates, Jayce and Card, is the most important part of this story. Their love and concern for her keeps her sane and bolsters her spirits when her body is depleted of magic. We get to revisit characters from the Witches Knot series, and that’s always exciting to see how past heroes and heroines are faring
Serena at FAR gives THREAT OF DARKNESS four angels and says in part: (…) this was a fantastic book. The characters are well-rounded and truly real ‘feeling’. (…) Both Jayce and Card were definitely drool-worthy and I loved Mei’s strength throughout the book. I truly hope that we are able to revisit the relationship that’s been established in this book.

If you haven't yet read Threat of Darkness, then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Hurry on over to Ellora's Cave and while you're there, check out all of Lauren's other great books.

And just who is this fabulous writer? Well, Lauren describes herself as a suburban mom with a salacious imagination that she’s put to good use with her writing. Her favorite thing is when people tell her that she doesn’t look like “someone who’d write those books.”

She lives in the Northwest with her husband and three very rambunctious kids. She writes everything from paranormals to contemporary BDSM books and develops terrible crushes on all of her heroes.

Even though she lives in her head a lot, she does venture outside from time to time to collaborate with other authors, oh and to buy shoes too.

Well, I think this suburban mom has one heck of a talent and I'm looking forward to a lot more books from her. Do visit Lauren's site for more on her and her writing.

Thanks, Lauren, for being our Must Read Featured Author, and hey girl, this hussy is looking
forward to the next time we catch up!!

Thanks everyone for visiting. Woo babies, this book delivers in spades!! I love the way Jared is brought back to life (s0 to speak) by the beautiful Ninia, rediscovering his dominant nature. Had me jumping in the pool so much I was almost a prune!!

If you haven't gotten your copy yet, GET IT ON and hurry over to Ellora's Cave. You'll be sooooo glad you did!

To tease you a little, here's a short blurb:

Roped:
Book 1 in the Heart of the West series

Returning from the war, his body wounded, his soul hurting, Jared faces a very different life. A sexual Dominant, doubts about his ability now to satisfy any submissive plague him.Until Ninia. The face of an angel and the body of a centerfold, she's about as unsubmissive as any woman he's known. A nurse in the Cheyenne VA hospital where Jared is sent, Ninia is tough, in control.

Until Jared catches her in an unguarded moment and see a vulnerable, softer side. It fires his blood with a need to find out more.

Accepting an invitation to a local dungeon, the sexual Dominant in Jared rears back to full potency when he sees Ninia, submissively awaiting his pleasure, his dominance. Now he knows what he wants. And he's about to prove to Ninia he's man enough to take it.

Wooooo hoooooo! I have to give up one secret. He's darn sure man enough. Oh yeah!!

I had a chance to chat with the talented and prolific author about this book and the others in the Heart of the West series. Here's what Ann had to say:

It's been a long time coming--EC contracted it back in early 2004 but I've just this summer finished Jared and Ninia's story. I'm as excited about these three siblings and their takes on Dominance and submission as I can remember having been since I started on my first book eons and eons ago!

The fabulous Syneca has created perfect covers for all three books: ROPED, HITCHED and LASSOED. Hopefully, if the muse stays sharp and my fingers don't freeze up on me, I'll finish HITCHED this month. It's about Jared's big brother, BDSM dungeon master Brad. and his favorite sub who wants nothing of a 24/7 master--even if it's the hottest Dom who's ever whispered sweet orders in her ear.

Next month I'll tackle LASSOED, where big sister Nancy rejoins the lifestyle after getting away from a cruel Dom-- this time as a Domme she's determined no one will ever hurt again. The rugged rancher she lassoes is willing to play the sub for her, but when she realizes his heart's not in the game she decides she can perform a Switch.

All this is set against the breathtaking backdrop of southern Wyoming, the rough, tough land the siblings all call home.

I'm hoping readers will enjoy these three emotionally charged stories of Dominance, submission, and the power of love for a lifetime.

Ann honey, you know this Hussy will be eager to read the next installment of this exciting series. And hey, take care of those fingers. Don't want anything to prevent you from delivering more exciting, sexy reads! Thanks so much for being our featured, Must Read author. Today is a big day for one of the Hussies (namely me). Scout'n'Cole, my third book of the Hot in the Saddle Series releases day from Ellora's Cave, the world's premier publisher of erotic romance.

Here's a little blurb:
Cole had no trouble attracting women. The Russell men were all blessed physically, and Cole was no exception. However, finding a woman who could match his passion for the wilderness as well as ignite passions of a different kind in his life was the problem.

Scout Windrider knew that love wasn’t for her. She’d yet to encounter a man who took her breath away, and figured it was just as well. What man would want to hook up with a woman who spent most of her life in the wild, tracking mountain lions?

Neither of them could have foreseen being paired in a no-kill hunt turned deadly would force them to confront an explosive attraction hot enough to consume them with its heat. Faced with a murderous madman intent on exacting revenge against the Windrider family, Scout and Cole take a leap of faith with each other, and discover something relegated to myth and legend prove to be true, that will touch their lives in a way that will change them forever.Ciana Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07299482063801023059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4827124756727342015.post-11592209168419163042007-09-16T11:29:00.000-04:002007-09-17T19:23:47.791-04:00

KOKO BROWN is a new author with EC,debuting with her first book, CHARMED. I love the premise of her first EC Book! Below is the blurb Koko sent me:

CHARMED

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right?
Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for recently married Chloe Walker, who believes she's left behind the biggest mistake she's ever made in her life in Sin City - her new husband Tristan, who although a walking Adonis is nuttier than her grandma Violet’s fruitcake because he thinks he’s a flesh and blood vampire!

However, after returning home, Chloe discovers that Tristan might not have been the loony toon she first assumed him to be. But while she must come to terms with the strange new changes in her life, she must also fend off a husband, who despite her weight insecurities is hell bent on winning her back and turning her into a full fledged vampire.

So who is Koko Brown?

Ever since the age of nine, KoKo Brown has had a love for the written word. So much so, that she decided to publish her own newspaper. Turning a tidy profit from the very first issue, the publication was unfortunately put out of business by KoKo’s grade school principal, who didn’t appreciate outside competition.

Undaunted, KoKo has never strayed too far from her "passion", whether it was writing for her college's literary magazine, bringing some "liveliness" to her local newspaper’s obituary page, writing web page content to attract visitors to Florida's beautiful Space Coast or even trying her hand at erotic fiction.

A quissential romance junkie, Koko became hooked on erotica during the summer of 2006. One day while daydreaming, she came up with the plot for her first erotic tale Charmed, which will be released on September 21, 2007.

After fleshing out a completed manuscript in only two weeks, she decided to test the waters, by sending it to one of her favorite erotic publishers Ellora’s Cave, the largest publisher of erotic literature in the world. A couple of months later, she received the call from Carole Genz her soon to be editor at Ellora's Cave, who offered her a publishing contract.

Currently, Ms. Brown is working on several other erotic stories, including a sequel to Charmed. When not writing, this Florida native likes spending time with family and friends, riding her Yamaha 650 Classic, surfing the internet, or traveling to exotic locales.

I caught up with this talented new author and like the good Hussy I am convinced her to answer some questions.

Sally: First off, is the rope too tight? Koko? (she shakes her head). Okay then, I'm going to remove the gag. Just answer my questions and I'll untie you and you'll be free to go. (Koko nods her head and agrees.) When did you start writing?

KoKo: I started writing at the age of nine, when I began my own newspaper, but I was put out of business by my grade school principal because it competed with the school newspaper.

Sally: That is so funny, although I'm sure as a child it was pretty upsetting. Surely you have something more juicy for our readers. Hmm... Koko? Why are you pursing your lips together? Now, you're shaking your head. I see, going back to read the first line in your blurb... Very well, what is in store for your readers?

Koko: (After breathing a sigh of relief. she agreed to continue in our interview) I am currently writing a sequel to Charmed. I'll be honest. I was a bit skeptical. But never one to pass up an opportunity I took a chance.

And was delighted :)

If you haven't read this book, you really should. And you know I'm not going to give away any of the goodies here. I'm just going to give you a tempting blurb:

Chrysanthemum

"On that dark day Arthur, mortally wounded, was taken to the Isle of Avalon by Vivian, Lady of the Lake, and Merlin, where he died and was laid to rest in the crystal cave…" Well, actually, that's not quite the way it happened.

In truth, Queen Vivian and Merlin abducted the king and returned him to his home planet, Avalon. Now he's anxious to marry off his youngest son, Gareth. When Florian LeFleur, his wardrobe guardian, asks permission to bring his three unmarried daughters to court, Arthur decides it's the perfect opportunity and assigns Gareth to oversee their time at Came-a-lot Castle.

Despite her determination to remain heart-free, Chrysanthemum immediately falls for Gareth. Life should have been rosy but there were roadblocks along the path to happily ever after. The Blue Knight captured Arthur, Percival the dragon demanded a virgin, Queen Vivian decided it would be the perfect time to stage a coup and the Abbott at Solomon's Choice Abbey chose Chrysanthemum for their ritual deflowering.

Will Gareth get Chrysanthemum to the priest in time to save the king and Avalon?

And what does Anny have to say about herself? Let me share a snippet of info from Anny:

I'm old enough to know better and young enough to be daring. I have a husband who encourages me to write and provides the time and a place to do so. I have children who are proud of the things I've accomplished and grandchildren who are too young to know what that might be.

An elderly cat and dog keep me company as I do the one thing I really, really love to do...and that is write. I'm so lucky that my life has circled back around to this place where I can sit at my desk as long as I want, imagining and creating new worlds, new characters, and writing about their lives. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I do.
Thanks Anny. We'll be looking forward to more sizzling reads!

If light-hearted but sensual books are your thing, then RUN over to Ellora's Cave for a copy of this book. And Eva's cover is more than that. But I can't tell you without giving it away. In EVA ST. CROIX's debut book, RORY'S REGRET, we get that and much more! Please welcome my friend, EVA, to the Blog. This story will have you laughing and crying over RORY'S REGRET, which debuts OCTOBER 5th. I can't wait!

To tease you like only a Hussy can tease, here's a litte blurb:
Halloween. A day for trick or treats and hauntings. For Dorian and Rory, it is a day to experience love and enjoy the pleasure of the flesh. They long for one another, waiting for the one day of the year they can touch each other again.

There is only one way that they can be together forever. Until then, they must repeat the day they died until a mortal sees them and helps them to the other side.

This Halloween a psychic reveals past horrors and Dorian is seen by a local girl. Rory, still unseen by a mortal, is filled with regret. Cruel events could cause her to be left behind while Dorian moves into the light. Will she be destined to spend eternity alone?

********************

So just who is this new talented writer? Well, she may be new to EC, but Eva St. Croix is the alter-ego of a popular romance writer. She lives in a tropical paradise where she spends her days lying by the pool drinking mint juleps while being fanned and fed grapes by adoring and gorgeous alpha males. If she were one of the characters in her book this would be so true. As it turns out she does live in a tropical paradise but instead of lying by the pool she's in it, the mint julep is bottled water, and the grapes are being thrown at her by adoring family members. And the fan? Not likely to happen unless she's doing the fanning.

Eva loves to put her characters in impossible situations while setting them emotionally on fire so they'll burn for each other with the slightest touch. Her plot lines are hot, spunky and intriguing - just what her characters beg for when they're not begging for each other. Eva adds suspense to keep her readers guessing and turning the pages.

You'll quite often find Eva with a book in her hand, an ebook on her reader, or a magazine shoved in her oversized purse. She loves to read but more than that she likes to watch people going about their daily activities or having conversations (she's been known to listen in a time or two) for plot ideas. People watching can reveal so much if you only take the time to notice the details.

Crafting a story is a natural ability to Eva. You'll often find her hatching out a plot on her laptop where the good guys have to come together to defeat impossible situations. The coming together is the very best part--hot, wild and wicked--so much so you'll be looking for a fan and mint julep of your own just to cool down.

******************

I caught up with EVA the other day in her whirlwind life and asked her a few questions I know you are all wanting to ask her.

Sally: So Eva can you tell us why you decided to start writing erotic romance?

EVA: I’ve always been an avid reader and writer. I wanted to branch off and diversify my work into erotic romance so that I could explore the closest relationship between a man and woman in a more intimate way.

Sally: You can't get any more intimate with a loving relationship than erotic romance. I definitely agree, fanning myself. Why this story? Where did you get the idea to write RORY'S REGRET?

EVA: I wanted to write a story for Halloween that showed how love lasts past death.

Sally: And you certainly did that with RORY'S REGRET! Ah.. can we ask... Oh yeah, a Hussy can always ask who influenced you the most?

EVA: Dear hubbie. ;-)

Sally: Okay, I should have seen I was walking right into that one.(g) Now it's payback time. What is Eva’s naughty secret?

EVA: Now if I tell it won’t be a secret anymore will it?

Sally: Don't think this Hussy is going to give up and accept an answer like that. There is blackmail you know...

EVA: Okay. Okay. Whispering.

Sally: Oh dear! I can't put that on a pubic forum... On to the next question. (Clearing throat) Everyone has special foods and places they enjoy for romantic interludes. Tell us yours.

EVA: Honey and a moonlit forest.

Sally:Oh yeah, I'm getting a visual here. Before we end the interview, Eva, what do you want readers to know about your writing?

EVA: That it comes from the heart.

Sally: And, what do you want them to take away from reading your books?

EVA: I want them to think about my characters long after they’ve put the book down. If I can accomplish that then I’ve done service to my readers.

Sally: What can readers expect from you in the future?

EVA: My next erotic romance will be Phillip and Valerie’s story, the secondary couple in Rory’s Regret.

I can't wait for the second book in the series! Like the writing of Terry Odell. A fellow Floridian and great friend, Terry hit the scene with Cerridwen Press like a rocket and has been going strong, producing one great read after the other.

One of my favorites is What's in a Name? A woman on the run who runs right into mystery and danger? My kind of book. Since it's my trademark not to reveal too much, I'll only give you a blurb about the book, then none of it will be spoiled during the read.

What's in a Name?

What happens when you're running for the wrong reason? Keep your friends close but your enemies closer is her philosophy. And I bet you're curious about the mind that created this tale, so let me share a little info with you about Terry, in her own words:

From Terry:

First, let me thank you for inviting me to share some of your blogspace. I've noticed that a common question is some variant of, "how did you start writing/how long have you been writing/when did you know you wanted to be a writer?"

Well – I got into this by mistake. Yep. Never really thought I'd actually put words to paper (or screen, depending on how you look at it.) I always made up stories—usually because I thought I could "fix" something someone else had written, or more likely, a better ending for a television episode, or a better scene in a movie. But actually write? No way. I tried it once—sat at the keyboard and after one page of having to type all those commas and quotation marks for dialogue (and, boy, do I love to set my characters loose and let them talk!), I said, "too much work" and went back to writing in my head.

Then, one day my son was home for a visit. As young men are wont to do, he was watching television, which meant he was clicking the remote. He stopped at one show and said, "Have you watched Highlander? It's all about these Immortals who can't die unless you cut off their heads, and then you get all their power."

Being a cool mom, I started watching the show, figuring I'd be able to talk about it with him. After all, hadn't I read a slew of Larry Niven so I could converse with my nuclear-physicist son-in-law on some sort of common ground? Well, after one episode, I figured this was going to be EASY. Who could not like watching Adrian Paul?
&
